The “House Critters” Christmas Time
The house critters knew something extra special
was going to happen because they could smell it. No really, they have very
sensitive noses and could actually smell the dust. The human that spent the
most time with them was cleaning everything, so they were sneezing from all the
dust and had to keep moving around; she always was called Barb by the other
humans.
Henrietta Bobbie Bunny, the eldest of the
critters, decided to get the rest of the house critters for a meeting to figure
out what was going to happen. Gathering them
up did not take long as Ducky Duck, Big Bunny, Blue Booby, and Rainy Reindeer
had all fled to the computer room with a wooden floor, so it was not going to
get vacuumed. They knew Thanksgiving had come and gone awhile ago, they could
still remember the taste of mashed potatoes and gravy. There had been a number
of snowy days, so they were sure it was winter. They thought and talked about it
for days, but did not know until Barb started putting up decorations, what was
coming. There were pine trees, skiers, funny looking red flowers, and bowls
with balls in them with everything having bright colors and lots of glitter. Then
she put out a little red wagon with elves in it and a village with people,
snow, and reindeer, which made Rainy very happy. The real give away was when she put up lots of
figures of an old guy with a white beard and a red suit. Then she went out on
the front porch to put up a flag with Santa in a sleigh with reindeer pulling
it, part of her flag for every season and occasion collection, which made Rainy
even happier. Big Bunny remembered the humans called this day Christmas and that
last year they helped make lots of cookies, along with eating a few.
He also
thought there was something that went on the night before Christmas and on
Christmas day that they had enjoyed last year. This started a discussion about
what each critter remembered and as usual they focused on treats. They mentioned
crackers and cheese, carrots with dip, shrimp and oysters, along with a ham
dinner. When any of the activities that had the treats happened they were not
sure. However, Henrietta did know that before the treats a big green tree would
be put up in the antique room and covered with lights, shinny ropes, and colored
balls. Then Ducky made a strange quack, turned out he was happy as he
remembered one of the best thing about this day. Everybody got presents,
actually everybody got lots of presents including them!
